The Internet is a thief. It stole your life
The Internet is toxic.
Can you laugh at the irony of me saying this online? Actually theres nothing to laugh about.
If there is one thing that could save my generation from doom it's forgetting about the internet.
Not only is it time consuming, but it has turned us into antisocial/awkward people and on top of that it glamorizes it.
Tumblr, yes I have one, is probably the reason of at least 50% of nowadays eating disorders. On a usual night you will scroll past photos of people jumping in front of a train, cutting themselves, emaciated figures with bones sticking out and, how ironic, fattening food. How do you have the nerve of posting a cheeseburger right after a photo with the hashtag #ana?
It's sad, it's dangerous, and it ruined me. Is it not enough that we compare ourselves to our friends, and the people we see on TV or on Billboards, placeswhere we can't avoid them? Do we really have to voluntarily sit in front of our computer for hours looking at people with better hair, legs and lives than us? No, it's not going to inspire you to eat better, work out or be more sociable. Instead of going to the gym you spent hour looking at skinny girls, after triumphantly eating that salad you will stare at pictures of the juiciest brownies and crunchiest cookies for the next two hours and then end up in the kitchen with Nutella dripping from the edge of your lip. You will fall for all those marketing schemes for make up and clothes, because they are everywhere. The Kardashians, may you say whatever you want against them, have amazing style but what we sometimes forget - too much money. Most of us don't have money to waste, even worse is it that the tabs next to my tumblr grow as the night gets later. Asos, Urban Outfitters, Ebay, Etsy... Spending money I don't have, to fit in, to be one of them, to be someone, something, making me more miserable than I was before.
I will be the first person to defend Pinterest, with my over 2000 pins and likes, endless nights looking at places I want to visit and sunsets, and pretty girls journaling, drinking tea or reading a book, happy families taking walks, friends laughing, couples in restaurants or girls working out in colorful gear.
It is ridiculous if you really think about it. It is outrageous. We could have all of these things!
Whats stopping me from buying a cute journal, brewing a tea or finishing that book I bought at Spoonbill & Sugartown? Whats stopping me from having friends over, playing games, taking walks? Whats stopping me from going to the gym and losing those 5 pounds? Whats stopping me from going to watch the sunset myself instead of doing it online? Exploring the city? Meeting new people?
You really want the answer?
The Internet.
